At 221 Years Old, Ormiston Wire Embraces Ecommerce

This year we were tasked with helping Ormiston Wire take another step forward in their business strategy and adding another landmark to their impressive 221 year history, by turning their existing website into an eCommerce platform.

The Ormiston Wire company originally made spring-wire for use in corsets and wigs. Now the company has expanded to have manufacturing facilities in Isleworth, West London and Redditch in the Midlands. The product range has diversified as well, now offering wire suitable for delicate surgical sutures, special effects applications, polypropylene-covered and Kevlar-cored strands for low-voltage lighting and high specification wire for the nuclear industry.

The company boasts an impressive list of previous clients and applications of their wire products including: Artisit Carrie Fertig, The Thomas Heathwick Studio, The Thunderbirds and Mercedes McLaren to name but a few.

We were tasked with taking the current Ormiston Wire website, which only allowed a very narrow product range to be purchased online, and enabling eCommerce throughout the entire site. To do this we started by consulting with the client and discussing feedback he had received from customers regarding their existing website.

Using this information we were able to apply our in-depth knowledge of eCommerce, CX and UX design to re work the site so it was much more intuitive and easy to use, as well as responsive.

We developed around a propriety shopping cart system for the eCommerce functionality on the site. The new website is now live, currently with only two product categories available at the moment. Ecommerce functionality will be extended across all available products in the very near future.
